Bath Association for Disabled People: Trustees meet six times a year to consider applications for funding to improve the quality of life for physically or mentally impaired people in Bath.
Grants range from a few hundred pounds to buy individual aids and equipment, to several thousands supporting improved access to buildings and community transport. Also are considered are grants and bursaries to assist with educational or personal development. Bath City Football Club Grants for Small Organisations - BCFC is offering small grants of up to £100, preferably in goods, to small community groups of any age in the Bath area with the broad remit of Sport & Leisure. The aim is to try to support groups who may not be fully constituted & find it difficult to obtain grants from existing funds. Bristol Airport Community Fund: The Bristol International Airport Fund is available for projects that benefit the local community within 5 miles of Bristol Airport focusing on:

  • Leisure, recreation and education.

  • Improving youth education and youth recreational activity.

  • Enhancing heritage conservation.

  • Supporting community regeneration.

  • Improving the potential for wildlife and environmental conservation

City of Bath Moral Welfare Fund: A small local fund to support disadvantage children and young people. For more information contact Mrs J Sharman, Tel: 01225 852652.

Community Initiative Grant - is now linked into assisting Somer Community Housing Trust achieve it's Better Places outcomes. It is available for projects that benefit Somer residents. Open to VCS groups working in areas where Somer has properties.There are 2 levels of grant to apply for: up to £200, this may apply to groups who need just a small amount of funding to make their group a success; or £200 - £500 for groups who want to put on a more ambitious project. The Higgs Charitable Trust: Supports general charitable work including Education/Training, Medical/Health/Sickness, Disability, Relief of Poverty, Overseas Aid/Famine Relief, Environment/Conservation/Heritage. One off grants, with preference for groups in the former county of Avon. The John and Celia Bonham Christie Charitable Trust: Makes grants to organisations and sponsors or undertakes research for general charitable purposes including Education/Training, Medical/Health/Sickness, Disability, Arts/Culture, Sport/Recreation. The Leonard Laity Stoate Charity: Supports organisations and charities in the southwest of England in the areas of medical and disability, disadvantage, youth and children, Methodism, other churches, community projects and the environment. Prefers small innovative projects with measure of self help or voluntary input. Grants from £500 to £1,000. Lloyds-TSB Foundation: The Community Programme: Broadbased fund that supports projects that enable disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in the community. The Quartet Community Foundation: The region’s top local foundation, distributing funds to local causes and charities across Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. Current grant programmes include:

Express Programme - Up to £2000 available to local voluntary and community groups working with people who are disadvantaged or isolated due to poverty, disability, age, location or culture. Quick response time of around 6 weeks.

Fund for Older People – Up to £2,500 for older people’s groups addressing issues around health and wellbeing. Should hear back within 4-6 weeks.

Bank of Ireland Charitable Fund – Up to £1,000 available for local voluntary and community organisations and schools that provide education, development or training opportunities to young people who are disadvantaged or isolated due to poverty, disability, illness, location or culture.

Mall’s Fountain Charity Fund - Grants of up to £1,000 are awarded to small, local voluntary and community organisations which help people in need within a 25 mile radius of The Mall at Cribbs Causeway.

Sport Relief Fund- Grants of between £250 and £10,000 are awarded to small, local voluntary and community organisations that use sport and exercise to strengthen communities and provide opportunities for people of all ages who are excluded or disadvantaged.

Bath Half Marathon Fund - Grants of up to £2,000 are awarded to small, local voluntary and community organisations for activities involving sport, exercise or play. All activities must have a community or charitable element. Priority is given to organisations with an annual income of less than £25,000

Grassroots Grants Programme - Now open for applications this new grants programme will run until March 2011. Community Groups and Charities with an annual income of a maximum of £30,000 are eligible to apply for a grant of up to £5,000 during the lifetime of the fund. There is now a rolling application process for these grants and you can expect a decision within 2-4 weeks.

Ralph and Irma Sperring Charity:
Funding for projects situated within a five-mile radius of the church of St John the Baptist, Midsomer Norton, specifically to:

  • provide or assist with the provision of residential accommodation for the relief of older people or those who are disabled or in need

  • assist with the establishment of village halls, recreation, charitable sports grounds and playing fields

  • to further the religious or other charitable work of the Anglican churches in the parishes

  • to support the charitable work of hospitals and leagues of friends for hospitals within the area of benefit

  • to further the education of inhabitants and in particular the education (including social and physical training) of children and young persons attending schools or colleges of further education.

South West Foundation: Local charitable foundation investing in communities to alleviate poverty and hardship and improve the quality of life local people. Current programmes:

Small Grants Fund: Grants of up to £500 for small Voluntary and Community Organisations with charitable aims supporting people most in need in communities, focusing on rural areas and market and coastal towns.

Networking and Empowerment Fund: Aims to support and help develop high quality networks operating at local, county or regional level throughout the South West. The networks must prioritise shared learning between members to improve practice and enable members to have voice and influence.

Stephen Clark 1957 Charitable Trust: Supports the preservation, embellishment, maintenance, improvement or development of any monuments, museums, churches or other buildings. Preference for local and Bath-based charities. Rarely supports medical or animal charities. Apply in writing to Dr Marianne I H Clark, Trustee, 16 Lansdown Place East, Bath BA1 5ET. Replies not made to unsuccessful applications.

 

St John's Hospital Community Grants: Two rounds of funding every year with applications being accepted between 1 January - 28 February (12 noon) and between 1 July and 31 August (12 noon). Each round addresses a specific theme. Eligibility - Funding is only available for projects within the boundaries of the City of Bath. Applications must fall within one of the following categories:

  • Relief of poverty and hardship. Organisations must show direct impact on the relief of poverty, most particularly in areas described as 'deprived'.

  • Relief of sickness. Includes mental health problems, the provision of equipment and the furtherance of medical knowledge and research and including counselling

  • Special Needs Education. Organisations that directly support boys and girls with special educational needs either through funding or part funding special projects or activities.

Verdon-Smith Family Charitable Settlement: Supports a wide range of worthy causes with small grants ranging from £50 to £1,000, particularly charities that help children and young people, the elderly and the sick. Apply in writing to Lady E J White, Trustee, 94 Sidney Place, Bath BA2 4NE. Unsuccessful applications will not be acknowledged.

Waitrose Community Matters: Each month, Waitrose shops will have £1,000 to divide between three local organisations. Under the scheme, customers nominate organisations by filling out a form available in-store, with the final decision made by PartnerVoice forums (Waitrose's local democratic bodies). Customers will be offered a token every time they shop which can be inserted in one of three Perspex boxes – one for each organisation. At the end of the month the tokens for each group will be weighed and the beneficiaries will receive a proportion of the cash.
