How will the Budget Cuts Affect us in B&NES? The Council website carries a breakdown of the immediate and projected effects of the Governments Emergency Budget - amongst the immediate cuts will be an £798,000 cut in spending for B&NES Children's Services, £135,00 loss in funding for the Supporting People Programme, which helps people to set up a home and live independently and there will be no free swimming for over 60's after 31 July - read more.

Register today to attend this Funding event, free to voluntary and community groups delivering services in B&NES. Booking Essential. Local and national funders and other organisations offering support will be on hand in the main hall all day to distribute information and talk to voluntary groups directly about their organisation or project. In addition, we will be running workshops throughout the day. Tea With Naomi - Wednesday July 7th at the Conygre Hall in Timsbury, Bath.1:30pm-4:00pm. Your chance to meet with Naomi Kent the Parliamentary Outreach Officer and hear how you or your community organisation can have an influence on Parliament over tea and cakes. Further information.
Chew Valley Interagency Forum Meeting - Wednesday 7th July 2010 in the The Millennium Hall, Chew Magna from 12.00-2.00pm.
Children’s Scrapstore Roadshow - Monday 12th July, Conygre Hall, North Road, Timsbury. 11am – 2pm. Free for members, £2 non members. Low cost art materials for work with adults & children - includes pots, fabric, card, netting, tubes, plastic tubs & more. For a full black plastic bag they ask for a donation of £4. If you have your own re-useable bag you would like to fill, please bring that. On the day there are free art and craft workshop for adults. Three new Working Groups have been set up, they are as follows:
Hospital Discharge with Jill Tompkins as lead, Carers
with Joan Travis as lead and Disabilities with Jayne Pye as
lead. If you would like to be more involved in these groups please
feel free to contact the office. The next LINk Meeting is on 6th
July at Manvers Street Baptist Church, Bath BA1 1JW, 10am-12
noon. Topics will include ‘Preparing Services for the Future’ and
‘Urgent Care’.
FREE Life Support Training - available to organisations and individuals in B&NES. Could you save a life in an Emergency? - Heartstart Emergency Life Support Training Thursday 2 September 10:00 - 12:00 at the Community Safety Centre Bath. Would you know what to do in a life-threatening emergency? Learning emergency life support skills (ELS) can help you to keep someone alive until professional help arrives. The British Heart Foundation can help you to learn these skills through the Heartstart initiative. Two Tunnels Open Day - Saturday 17 July
- this is to give members of the public a final chance walk the mile-long tunnel
before it is transformed into a part of the Greenway. Walks will start every
half hour between 10am and 4pm at the Tucking Mill (southern) end of the tunnel.

Register Now as a Provider for Skills Funding Agency. European Social Fund contracts are getting bigger, and will cover larger geographical areas, now is the time for organisations who wish to bid for Skills Funding Agency ESF contracts to begin the process, by completing a Pre Qualifying Questionnaire (PQQ). Working with Young People who Display Harmful Sexual Behaviour - Foundation, 21 July 2010, St Luke's Church Hall, £100 per person. For all those people who need to know about the B&NES protocol, assessment model and therapeutic resources for working with young abusers and their families. The day will also cover multi-agency approaches to intervention, support and service planning. You must have completed level one and two of the Inter-agency Training Programme or an equivalent. |

Chairman’s Community Awards for
2010/2011. The presentation of these Awards will be an opportunity to
recognise the work carried out within the community by volunteers across
Bath and North East Somerset - some of the unsung heroes of local
organisations, residents and good neighbours. This year there is a new
category “Good Neighbour”. The Chairman's theme of office for the year is:
“Celebrating Excellence” and nominations are particularly invited that link
with this theme. However, nominations are invited from all sections of the
community right across the Authority area. All nominees will receive a
Certificate in recognition of their work in the community and the winners
will also receive an Award. These will be presented at an evening Awards
Ceremony in the Guildhall on 22nd November 2010. Please see the
nomination form and
guidance notes. The deadline for nominations is Friday 15th October

Common Induction Programme for New Staff in the Children and Young People’s Workforce. From 23 June 2010 to June 2011 Bath and North East Somerset, in conjunction with the Children Trust Board will be piloting this programme. The common induction programme is for workers and managers who are new to post in the last six months or less. It is aimed at new staff working in an advisory, supervisory or supporting role to children, young people and their families. Applications from workers and managers that started work from September 2009 will be considered depending upon the availability of places. Further details and booking form.
Day 2 of the Common Induction will
cover Child Development, Attachment, Resilience, the impact of adversity
on child development and understanding behaviour. This will be held on
the 20th July at the St Lukes Church Hall, Bath and there are still

Chief Officers Network - next meeting Thursday 23
September 9.30-12.30 at Clydesdale Bank,3rd floor, Royal Mead. Topics are
consideration of £400 available funding for the network and Commissioning of
services by BANES Council as well as the usual opportunity to network.
