Does Your Organisation Need Funding? Book Now to Attend the B&NES Funding Fair!

Places are filling up fast for the B&NES Funding Fair, organised by DEVELOP for voluntary and community groups in Bath & Northeast Somerset. Major Funders and other support organisations will be on hand in the Main Hall from 10-3pm to discuss how they can support your organisation or project. You can also sign up to specialist workshops throughout the day, designed to help you increase and diversify your group's funding:

Book Now for the next B&NES Voluntary Sector Forum 30 September at the Somer Centre, Midsomer Norton. As usual the timing for this meeting will be 10:00 - 12:00. Under the new format for the VSF, booking is open to Chief Officer's and Chairs of Trustee Boards for each organisation. If you are unsure who should attend please contact Paula Cannings: paula@developecs.org.uk . An agenda for this meeting will be available closer to the date.

 

Make & Shake Summer Carnival Fun 20th July 6.30-8.30 pm at Odd Down Community Centre BA2 2TL.  - Free.
A Bath Area Play Project, Play Network event aimed at workers to give ideas for the summer and to inspire play workers with fun making instruments and props with scrap on a carnival theme. Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults -  Bath & NES Safeguarding Team have produced a leaflet explaining what form abuse can take and where people can get help and advice. Please follow this link for the Safeguarding Leaflet or try the Easy Read version.

BBC Children in Need need Volunteer Committee Members to advise their trustees on where best to allocate funding across the South West. Full details of the skills and knowledge required and how to apply can be found on the BBC website.  They are particular keen to reach the following who are under-represented in their committee: younger people (but must be aged at least 18), men, disabled people, people from an ethnic minority community and people with knowledge of Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, Channel Islands, Cornwall, Dorset, Isle of Wight, Oxfordshire, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

Building Better Communities Through Stronger Partnerships”
, a free half-day workshop to share good practice in partnership working between the voluntary and public sectors.The Albemarle Centre, Taunton - 27 July 2010, 1.00 – 4.00pm (lunch provided). A  participatory event exploring better partnerships. Discuss how the Compact between the public and voluntary sector can be used to deliver better ways of working. In table discussions, you’ll generate practical actions to take away and implement. The event will be led by your led by your South West Regional Leader Trevor Hazelgrove. National Playday is the celebration of the child’s right to play. Bath Area Play Project are running  Come & Play Wednesday 4 August 12 – 3pm in Queen Square, Bath in partnership with B&NES Family Information Service and Youth Service There will be Inflatables Amazing Maze Barbecue Samba Music, Den building and construction with the Community Play Rangers, City construction – help build a street for play, Junk music making Bubbles Make your own smoothie on a bike, Weird Science Face painting Fake tattoos. Open to all families and children

 

Social Media - a Hands on Introductory Workshop 28 July, 9:30 - 3:30 at BDA 5 Russell Town Avenue, Redfield. BS59LT. This is a hands-on workshop that will introduce you to the new media marketing tools of bulletin boards, blogs and other social media related websites in your online communication and publicity efforts. The May Gurney Fund is now open for applications. The Fund supports community based charities and good causes which help young people and the long-term unemployed get back into work. The aim is to improve opportunities in terms of education, self-help, health and wellbeing as well as supporting local environment issues. There is £15,000 available to groups addressing these issues in Bristol and Bath & NE Somerset. Priority will be given to smaller charities that demonstrate genuine local community engagement. The maximum grant is £5000. Closing Date  is Friday 27th August 2010. More detail on the Quartet Website

 

Free support for Marketing & Communications. The Foundation for Social Improvement (FSI) is working on a new initiative called Donate28. The scheme will recruit private sector experts to undertake year long scholarships with small charities to improve their marketing, communications or advertising. To be considered, you need to be registered on the FSI Community.  It is easy and free – just click the purple tab at the top of the FSI website

Be Aware - Tax and National Insurance E-mail Refund Scams are on the Increase and Very Plausible! Be informed - They arrive in your e-mail in-tray as “Tax Refund Notification” - or something very similar - stating that it is from HM Revenue & Customs – this is normally seen some where in the e-mail - with an e-mail address that will be along the lines of [mailto:secure@hmrc.gov.uk]. The e-mail will call your attention to a payment refund of £…….. that you have failed to collect and then go onto ask for your bank details so they can deposit the “refund” into your bank account via online banking. A Framework for Collaboration Thursday 22 July from 10am – 1pm at The Vassall Centre, Bristol.  Commissioned by West of England Consortium and developed by Social Enterprise Works, this resource booklet sits alongside Managing in Tough Times developed last year. FREE Life Support Training Thursday 2 September 10:00 - 12:00 at the Community Safety Centre Bath.  Learning emergency life support skills (ELS) can help you to keep someone alive until professional help arrives. The British Heart Foundation can help you to learn these skills through the Heartstart initiative. Further details can be found on the British Heart Foundation website.  This course is aimed at  workers, volunteers, service users, individuals in the wider community - open to all. Survey - the visual impact of future offshore wind farms in the UK. You are invited to participate in this survey which is is part of a research project undertaken at the London School of Economics and Political Science. No prior knowledge about climate change, wind energy and wind turbines is required.
