A Free Day Out for Groups of Older People in Bath & North East Somerset - The Lifeskills Regional Safety Education Centre in Bristol is built as a realistic ‘village’ and designed to help people learn about safety. The older people’s programme has a particular emphasis on falls prevention. Key messages include healthy eating, keeping active, medication, fire safety, and safety in and around the home and garden.
It is a fun day out for a group of up to 25 people. The day runs from 10.30am – 3pm and there is a café at the centre serving a variety of hot and cold food that can be bought at lunchtime. Full Cost Recovery: from theory to practice – Friday 30 April (Exeter). This course is designed principally for non-accountants in the Voluntary & Community Sector with limited, if any, knowledge of FCR.  It aims to explain the underlying theory and practical application of the FCR process, with particular reference to the preparation of funding bids. Free Charity Law Seminar - A Charity's Guide to Donor and Event Fundraising - how to maximise your income - 27th April in Bath. This seminar will be presented jointly by Stone King Sewell and accountants Moore Stephens, with advice on how to minimise the tax liabilities of donors and charities, ensure legal compliance and provide practical guidance to help donors and charities save money and avoid major pitfalls.  Registration is at 2.15pm with the Seminar starting at 2.30pm and finishing at approx 4.00pm. Refreshments will be provided. Bookings through the SKS website on a first come basis.

 

National Indicator 7 (NI7) - Why do we need to know? - National Indicators are national priority outcomes set by the government which local authorities will be responsible for delivering, either on their own or in partnership with others. In B&NES, one of the 'headline' National Indicators chosen was NI7, which is about supporting a thriving voluntary sector (or 'Third Sector'). Dedicated Website for Trustees - the Trustees’ Network has sadly come to the end of its' funding. We are exploring the possibility of some funding to re-launch the Network later this year, in the meantime we have launched a website full of useful information and signposting for trustees: www.trusteesinbanes.org.uk.

 

Collaboration for Trustees 27 May, 10:30 - 12.30 in Bristol. A free seminar from NCVO, funded by the Dulverton Trust in partnership with Voscur. Working in collaboration with other voluntary organisations can make your organisation more effective, efficient and resilient. As a trustee, you  have particular duties and responsibilities with regard to collaboration and merger. This seminar is intended to help Trustees:

'Get Set - Collaborate' - Thursday 22 April 9.30 – 2.00 or Wednesday 19 May 9.30 – 2.00 at the Elwin Room, BRSLI, Queen Square, Bath. The Care Forum, Develop enhancing community support and the West of England Consortium have worked with Social Enterprise Works to develop these workshops for those organisations that want to explore collaboration as a response, amongst other issues, to the expected re-commissioning of community services. The workshop will include an opportunity to hear the outline commissioning intentions for community services in B&NES. There will also be exercises to enable attendees to meet and learn about each others services. There will be a chance to hear about different ways of working and tools to support this. Dowload Flyer. Support Planning - a half-day workshop on Thursday 10th June at The Guildhall, Bath, from 10am to 1pm. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. (A support plan 'is the document that describes how someone will spend their Personal Budget to meet the needs identified in their assessment. It details who will be assisting them and how they want this to be provided. It is a statement where they tell others how they wish to be cared for. The person may write it themselves or ask for assistance from someone else.'). The workshop will be highly interactive, and will include topics such as:
