Book Now for the next B&NES Voluntary Sector Forum 30 September at the Somer Centre, Midsomer Norton. As usual the timing for this meeting will be 10:00 - 12:00. Under the new format for the VSF, booking is open to Chief Officers and Chairs of Trustee Boards for each organisation. Partnership Working Advice Bursaries - Are you considering partnerships or joint working with other groups or projects? Partnership working takes planning and resources. If you are thinking of joint working with another organisation or agency from a different sector you can apply for a bursary of £1,000 to pay a consultant who can work with you to explore your ideas, and help to plan actions.The scheme is available to groups with a turnover of under £150k per year, and who have been operational for at least 2 years. There are still a number of these bursaries available to groups that are operational in Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset. Work Shadow Week - applications close Friday 30 July - NCVO's Forum For Change and Compact Voice are once again holding the ‘Day in the Life’ work shadow scheme, where staff from voluntary groups are paired with a staff member within Central Government for a full working day. Apply now

 

B&NES Funding Fair - Tuesday 7th September, 10-3pm, Conygre Hall, Timsbury

 Places are filling up fast for the B&NES Funding Fair, organised by DEVELOP for voluntary and community groups in Bath & Northeast Somerset. Major Funders and other support organisations will be on hand in the Main Hall from 10-3pm to discuss how they can support your organisation or project. You can also sign up to specialist workshops throughout the day, designed to help you increase and diversify your group's funding:

Would you like professional help in creating a film about your organisation? Volunteer Filmmaking is a project run by Media Trust to encourage small charities to apply to have a professional film produced about their organisation, work and impact. Applications are now open for charities or CIC's registered in England with an annual turnover of less than £2 million. Environmental and wildlife charities, in particular are encouraged to apply. Through the scheme, professional filmmakers are matched with charities to create short promotional films at a fraction of the normal cost. The short films, usually up to five minutes long, are also guaranteed a broadcast slot on Media Trust's national television channel, Community Channel.  Have a look at some of the films made last year. Public Consultation Day for new Police Accommodation in Keynsham Thursday 29th July from 3 - 7 pm. It is proposed that a custody and crime investigation centre will be located at Ashmead Road, Keynsham in order to provide flexible and compliant facilities to serve Bath and parts of Bristol for the next 30 years. It will house 45 cells and enable officers to process detainees faster and return to policing the streets more quickly. The public drop-in session is being held at Drill Hall, Bristol TA Centre, Ashmead Road, Keynsham, Bristol BS31 1SX. This will include a 'meet the team' session from 5-7pm.

 

The next Children and Young People’s Network meeting on the 13th September 2010, will now be held at the Kaposvar Room, The Guildhall Bath at 3.30 – 6.30. The meeting will be attended by Ashley Ayre (Director of Children Services) and Liz Price ( Acting Head of Commissioning). The meeting will be very relevant to those who hold contracts with Children Services as the agenda will include

The proposed methodology and approach for making budget reductions this year and next, including the role of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

bullet The Councils approach to commissioning, and the need for an agreed framework that would allow the VCS to contribute to the strategic design and commissioning of services.

The level of data requirements placed on VCS organizations delivering contracts.

bullet

The methodology used to select representatives of the VCS to sit on various bodies.

bullet Dorothy House - The charge is £8.50 plus VAT, regardless of whether the CRB is for staff or volunteers because they have to cover costs, postage etc. Clearly there is no charge made by the CRB itself for volunteers. FREE Life Support Training Thursday 2 September 10:00 - 12:00 at the Community Safety Centre Bath.  Learning emergency life support skills (ELS) can help you to keep someone alive until professional help arrives. The British Heart Foundation can help you to learn these skills through the Heartstart initiative.
