What is the VCS Steering Group?

The VCS Steering Group is effectively the working Executive for the Voluntary Sector Forum.  Its role is to actively identify and promote the interests of the Voluntary and Community Sector on the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) in relation to:

bullet The Sustainable Community Strategy
bullet The Local Area Agreement
bullet Cross-cutting issues that affect the Voluntary & Community Sector (including sustainability; equalities; social inclusion)
bullet Other issues that the Voluntary and Community Sector feels should be brought to the attention of the LSP (including issues that have wider regional/sub-regional impact.)

The Voluntary Sector Steering Group is formally accountable to the Voluntary Sector Forum and reports to each Voluntary Sector Forum meeting.  The VCS Steering Group is Chaired and co-ordinated by B&NES CVS.

The Core Strategy Consultation - The Council is reviewing its planning policies. To stimulate discussion about how our district should develop over the next 20 years, the Council has published a document that identifies the major issues it thinks we are facing. Work to put together a new generation of planning policies which will set out the broad locations for new housing, jobs and community facilities is being launched by the Council. Some of these new policies will be set out in a document called the Core Strategy. The Core Strategy will set out the long term planning framework for the District looking ahead to 2026.
