Children England (formerly the National Council of Voluntary Child Care) is the leading membership organisation for the children, young people and families voluntary sector. Their  mission is to create a fairer world for children, young people and families by championing the voluntary organisations which work on their behalf. Play England -  provides advice and support to promote good practice, and works to ensure that the importance of play is recognised by policy makers, planners and the public. Independent Safeguarding Authority - The Independent Safeguarding Authority’s (ISA) role is to help prevent unsuitable people from working with children and vulnerable adults. Every person who wants to work or volunteer with vulnerable people must be assessed. The Independent Safeguarding Authority has created a series of downloadable posters, inserts and email templates, to help explain the new vetting and barring scheme, which comes into force next year.  These resources are free to download from http://www.isa-gov.org/toolkit/

Positively Safe: a guide to developing safeguarding policies - A good step by step guide including: risk assessment, 8 steps to recruiting safely, whistleblowing and complaints and working towards a safeguarding policy statement. Produced by NCVCCO and available on the Every Child Matters website

Working with Children and Young People with Disabilities. The Children's Workforce Development Council has created a web-based resource for anyone working with children and young people with disabilities. "Everyone in the children’s workforce is increasingly likely at some point to work with children and young people with disabilities. At CWDC, we want to help provide you with the right skills and knowledge to allow you to flexibly and appropriately meet the needs of these children and young people in ways that focus on strengths and abilities rather than disabilities."  Click here to link to the CWDC website.

Need Help In Involving Young People? Big Lottery have contracted Participation Works to provide support to organisations around the involvement and participation of young people. They have developed a range of services that voluntary and community sector organisations can access free of charge. See www.participationworks.org.uk       

 

 

Local Support & Services in B&NES

 

Child Safe Child-Safe  is a registered children and young person's charity providing support and advice around child protection. Child-Safe holds free seminars across the B&NES District which are open to clubs and voluntary organisations working with children and offering information and resources to enable them to develop and implement an effective child protection scheme.  For dates of next seminars or to book a place please contact the Child-Safe Administrator on 01225 842473 OR email sarah.frostick@avonandsomerset.police.uk   

B&NES Children and Young People's Network: The Children & Young People’s Network, run by the Bath Area Play Project, provides anyone working with children and young people in the Voluntary and Community Sector with up to date information on relevant legislation and developments at a local and national level. They support and facilitate representation on relevant strategic level meetings insuring the voice of the sector is heard,  as well as being able to input into dission making.The Network holds regular meetings, distributes e-bulletins and aims to raise the profile of the sector in delivering and sustaining services for children and young people in B&NES.   • Dorothy House is an umbrella body for CRBs. The charge is £8.50 plus VAT, regardless of whether the CRB is for staff or volunteers because they have to cover costs, postage etc. Clearly there is no charge made by the CRB itself for volunteers.
